The Rose and the Sword: How to Balance Your Feminine and Masculine Energies
Excerpt from Chapter 19/Commentary:
All you need to do [to combine self-learning with adventures] is to use your imagination and go on an inner journey. Better yet, do it with your partner. If you haven’t a partner, pick a close friend to travel with. Plot out your inner space together, following the story. Meet your “lower self”––the monster at the door that wanted to come in. Be courageous as you coolly assess your “lower nature”––remembering that we all have one––and write down its negative personality aspects that need changing. Be careful not to let yourself become overwhelmed. Be the fearless traveler who is in charge. Pick one aspect of your lower nature to work on, noticing when it rears its ugly head, and write about it without self-condemnation. The more you do this, the more you master your lower nature. Share your experiences with your partner or buddy. When you have conquered one aspect, move to the next one on your list.
Remember your inner child, that part of you that may have lacked the parental attention and caring that it needed. When we acknowledge and love this child, we experience a greater sense of wholeness. All that is needed is a daily internal loving connection.
After a while, you will find that you have changed and become the person you wanted to be. Remember––and this is most important––do NOT punish yourself or berate yourself for having whatever negative characteristics you discover. Be grateful that you have found them and that you can free yourself of them. By doing this, you move closer and closer to fully becoming your Higher Self, which is your positive nature.
